Description

Ocean jasper druzy tower, carved and polished into a six sided point with a flat cut base. It stands 20cm tall and weighs 618g, which puts it well into the large end of the towers and gives it real weight in the hand.

The ground is a deep charcoal, almost black in places, and across it run bands and clusters of orbs in gold, ochre, cream and soft grey white. Some of the orbs are tight concentric rings only a few millimetres across. Others have opened out into pockets lined with fine sparkling druzy, and a few have hollowed entirely, leaving small open caves in the face of the stone. The gold veining threads between them and catches the light before the druzy does.

About this ocean jasper druzy tower

Every tower in the Grove is photographed as it is, under ordinary light and without lifting the colour. Ocean jasper varies more than almost any other stone we carry, in ground colour, in orb size and in how much druzy has opened, so the photographs are there to show you exactly what this patterning looks like rather than an idealised version of it.

Worth knowing: despite the name, this material is not strictly a jasper. It is a heavily silicified volcanic rock, and the orbs are radial mineral growths formed as the rock altered. Ocean jasper is a trade name rather than a mineral species, which is why so much orbicular material gets sold under it. What defines the genuine article is the tight concentric orb structure, which this tower has across all six faces.

Traditional correspondences

Ocean jasper is traditionally worked with for a change of outlook. The association is with tides and with things moving in cycles, so it tends to be reached for when something has gone stuck or heavy and the intention is to let it move again rather than to force it. The orbs themselves carry the older symbolism of the circle, which is wholeness and return.

The druzy adds a second quality, usually described as gentle lift, where many small crystal points brighten whatever the stone is placed with. A tower is the form most often chosen for direction and focus, at a desk, a doorway, or as the centre of a grid. This piece sits well with heart and solar plexus intentions, and it pairs with clear quartz, moss agate or smoky quartz.

Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.

Caring for ocean jasper

The stone sits between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for everyday handling and dusting. The vulnerable parts are the open druzy pockets and the hollow caves, where the edges are thin and the crystal points inside are fine. Lift the tower by the body, set it down rather than resting it on its side, and keep it clear of harder stones on the same shelf.

Keep water out of the pockets. The stone itself takes a rinse without harm, but the open cavities trap water and grit, and wet dust inside a druzy pocket is very difficult to shift afterwards. A soft dry brush is the right tool, a makeup brush or a photography blower.

Sunlight will not fade ocean jasper, so a bright shelf is fine. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight rather than water.
