Cacao

Ceremonial cacao is pure cacao paste, made from whole cacao beans that are ground rather than processed into cocoa powder. Melted into warm water or milk, it makes a rich, gently warming drink that many people use to open a ritual, a meditation or a quiet morning in place of coffee. Cacao has been part of ceremony in Mexico and Central America for centuries, where it was often shared as a drink of gathering and gratitude.

How to prepare a cup

Chop a small piece of cacao finely and whisk it into hot, not boiling, water or plant milk until smooth. Add a pinch of cinnamon, chilli or a little honey if you like. Start with a small amount and see how it sits with you.

A simple cacao ritual

Hold the warm cup in both hands and take a few slow breaths. Set one intention for the day, a cycle or a season, then sip slowly. Many people follow with a few lines in a journal, or open a full or new moon circle with a shared cup.

Our ceremonial cacao is vegan and gluten free. Cacao naturally contains theobromine, so if you are pregnant, take regular medication or have a heart condition, check with your doctor first.
