The stone runs grey green through the body with darker bands and patches breaking across the back and the base. Labradorite only shows its flash at particular angles, so this is a piece to turn slowly under a lamp or a window rather than one that announces itself from across a room. Labradorite varies more than almost any stone in the shop. Base colour, band placement and the angle the flash appears at are different in every piece, so the images are this labradorite dragon carving rather than a representative sample.
Nothing is swapped for something similar. The base is flat and wide, and at 200g the piece sits solidly on a cloth without shifting.
What a labradorite dragon means
The dragon in the older material is a guardian of thresholds and of things not fully seen. Guarding a gate, a body of water, a store of knowledge. In the Celtic reading it goes further and the dragon is the land itself, its body forming the ridges and its movement running under them, which is where the idea of ley lines came from. The druidic tradition holds dragons as guardians of the earth and of whatever is sacred on it.
Labradorite is the stone that sits closest to that. It is worked with for intuition, for dreaming and for the in between, the times and places that are neither one thing nor the other. Dusk, the threshold, the moment before you know a thing properly.
Put them together and the labradorite dragon carving reads as a guardian of the unseen rather than of a room. It is the one of the five to keep on a reading table, beside a dream journal or wherever you do divination work, rather than by a door.
The green in the stone also lands it on the green dragon of the colour lore, which carries the land, growth and the guardianship of place.

Caring for your labradorite dragon carving
Labradorite sits around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. It is a feldspar, and feldspars split cleanly along internal planes, which matters more than the hardness number suggests. A sharp knock can take a flake off along a plane rather than chipping a corner.
Handle it by the body and the base. Do not stack anything against the crest.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sun. Labradorite is more stable than rose quartz but long exposure is not worth the risk on a piece like this.
A dry cloth is all it needs. No soaking, no harsh cleaners. The polished areas take fingerprints more readily than the matte ones, and a dry microfibre cloth lifts them.
To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
