Description
Ginger essential oil is steam distilled from the dried rhizomes (roots) of Zingiber officinale, common ginger, a flowering plant native to Southeast Asia and now one of the most widely consumed spices and medicinal plants in the world. Ginger has been used in cooking and traditional medicine across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa for thousands of years.
Ginger essential oil has a warm, spicy, sharp, and aromatic scent that is reminiscent of fresh ginger root, with woody, earthy, and slightly lemony undertones. The main aromatic constituents include zingiberene, beta-sesquiphellandrene, and other sesquiterpenes, which give it its characteristic warm, pungent, spicy character. Steam-distilled ginger oil lacks some of the intense pungency of fresh ginger but retains its warm, aromatic quality.
In aromatherapy, ginger essential oil is used in warming, stimulating, and comforting preparations. It is widely used in massage blends for muscles, joints, and circulation, where its warming properties are particularly valued in cold or damp conditions. In diffusion, ginger creates a warming, comforting atmosphere and is popular in winter seasonal blends. It is also associated with nausea support in inhalation preparations. Ginger blends well with orange, cinnamon, clove, frankincense, rose, and other warming spice and citrus oils.
Ginger essential oil may cause skin irritation in some individuals and should be diluted before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted massage and skin preparations. Not for internal use.
