Description
Bay leaf essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Laurus nobilis, the true laurel or sweet bay tree native to the Mediterranean region. This is the same plant whose dried leaves are used as a culinary herb and whose leaves were woven into laurel wreaths in ancient Greek and Roman culture. It is distinct from West Indian bay (Pimenta racemosa), which has a very different aromatic profile.
Bay leaf essential oil has a fresh, spicy, herbaceous, and slightly camphoraceous aroma with warm, clove-like undertones. The primary constituents include 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), eugenol, and linalool, which together contribute to its complex, herb-meets-spice character. The scent is clean, medicinal, and warm simultaneously.
In aromatherapy, bay leaf essential oil is used in diffuser and massage blends. It is considered a circulatory stimulant and is included in blends designed to support scalp health and hair care. It blends well with eucalyptus, rosemary, juniper, lavender, and cedarwood essential oils. In natural perfumery it is used as a spicy middle note.
Bay leaf essential oil contains eugenol and should be used with care, keeping dilutions low (typically 1% or less) for skin application. Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive mucous membranes. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted blends. Not for internal use.
