Description
Large sunstone tower, carved and polished from a single piece, standing 26cm tall and weighing a full kilo. Four faces rising to a point, with a base wide enough to stand square without a fitting.
Peach and dusky salmon run through most of the body here, broken by cream feldspar and by defined patches of black tourmaline. Small pale green zones sit near the top. Tilt it under a lamp and the salmon areas throw a coppery glitter, sharpest across the lower portion, where it flares rather than sparkles evenly. That effect is the reason the stone is called sunstone. It comes from tiny platelet inclusions catching light from inside the feldspar rather than off the polish, so it appears and disappears as the piece turns and it will not show at all in flat light.
About this piece
At a kilo this is a floor or hearth piece as much as a shelf piece. It has presence at 26cm and it is heavy enough that it stays where it is put.
There is fine internal cracking through the lower third, visible in the photographs. Feldspar carries this and it is ordinary in material worked at this size. It is a feature of the stone rather than damage to the finish, and it is shown rather than photographed around.

Traditional correspondences
Sunstone is kept in older practice as a stone of warmth and of outward movement, associated with the returning light and with saying yes to things. It sits with the visible half of a year rather than the inward half, and it is usually reached for at the point where something has been decided and now needs carrying out.
A piece this size tends to be placed rather than carried, somewhere it will be walked past daily.

Caring for feldspar
Feldspar sits around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, softer than quartz. Keep it clear of quartz points and tumbles, which will scratch it permanently.
The cleavage matters more at this weight. Feldspar splits along two flat planes meeting near a right angle. A kilo dropped onto a hard floor will take a clean flake off rather than chip roughly, and the fine cracking in the lower third means that section is the weakest point. Lift it by the body with both hands, not by the tip.
To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight. Water is not needed and prolonged soaking is not advisable with a piece carrying internal cracking.
