Description
Black obsidian owl, carved and polished, 6cm tall and 120g. Solid stone throughout, not resin with chips set into it.
Deep glossy black with a mirror finish across the face and chest, and scalloped feathering cut into the body. The eyes are domed rather than ringed, which gives this one a rounder look than the rest of the owls. It sits on its own feet with no separate perch.
At 6cm it has more presence than the 5cm carvings and enough weight to hold a corner of a desk or an altar.
What a black obsidian owl means
Black obsidian is volcanic glass, and in traditional practice it belongs to protection and to truth. It is the stone people reach for when something needs looking at honestly, which is why it turns up so often in shadow work and in scrying. The polished surface has been used as a mirror for a very long time.
It is grounding rather than soothing. Obsidian tends to show you the thing rather than soften it.

Care
Obsidian is glass, so it is softer than the quartz family and will scratch or chip against harder stones. Keep it out of a bowl with points and tumbles, and set it down rather than dropping it. A chip in obsidian can leave a genuinely sharp edge.
Dust with a dry cloth, which is all the mirror finish needs. Avoid salt and cleaners. Cleanse with sound, breath or moonlight.
