Description
This cast iron cauldron is solid cast iron with a triple moon design, 11 x 13cm. A good all round size for the altar. There is room for a charcoal disc on a bed of sand with resin on top, or for a candle stub and a few herbs.
The raised triple moon on the front shows the waxing, full and waning moon, a symbol many practitioners link with the maiden, mother and crone. It is a clear, defined detail that stands out on the altar without being fussy.
Using your cast iron cauldron
Cast iron holds heat well, which is why it has been the material of choice for cauldrons for centuries. Many people use theirs for burning incense and resin on charcoal, for releasing written intentions, as an offering bowl, or filled with water for scrying.
When burning anything inside, add a layer of sand or salt first so the base does not become too hot to touch.
Care and safety
The whole cauldron gets very hot in use. Stand it on a heatproof surface, handle it only once it has cooled, and never leave a burn unattended. Keep it away from children, pets and anything that could catch.
Cast iron can rust if left damp. Dry it thoroughly after washing and wipe the inside with a little oil now and then.
