Caring for a pink tourmaline tower
Tourmaline sits at 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, so it stands up to ordinary handling. Keep it away from harder stones and from anything gritty.
Tourmaline carries a real quirk. It builds a static charge when it is warmed or rubbed, which is why tourmaline specimens collect dust faster than most stones. A dry soft brush clears it.
The colour is stable in normal room light. There is no need to leave a pink tourmaline tower in strong sun, and warmth only encourages the static.
Avoid soaking it. Matrix pieces hold softer minerals and old healed fractures, and standing water finds both. To cleanse, use sound, breath, or a night on a windowsill.
