Description
A sodalite sphere, cut and polished from natural sodalite and sent with a clear stand. There are seven to choose from, between 42mm and 55mm, so there is a size for a pocket, a bedside table or a desk. Each sphere is photographed on its own, and the letter in the dropdown matches the photo, so the sphere you see is the sphere you receive.
Choose your sodalite sphere
- A, 55mm, 230g, ยฃ25. Deep blue with bands of rust and orange brown wrapping around the sphere, and fine white veining. The warmest of the set.
- B, 53mm, 202g, ยฃ22. Deep inky blue with a fine white vein running across the face and a high, glassy polish.
- C, 53mm, 208g, ยฃ22. Dark navy with a lighter blue and white patch on one side, flecked with black and red brown.
- D, 55mm, 228g, ยฃ25. Rich royal blue with white mottling across the face and a pinkish white band at the top.
- E, 49mm, 160g, ยฃ18. Bold blue and white with fine orange lines crossing the sphere. Lots of contrast.
- F, 46mm, 149g, ยฃ16. Dark blue with a pale white patch and soft hints of green.
- G, 42mm, 104g, ยฃ12. The smallest. Blue with warm peach and tan patches and black flecks, and a lovely size to hold in the hand.
The group photograph shows the whole set together, so you can compare the colours side by side.
What sodalite is
Sodalite is a natural mineral prized for its deep royal blue. The white veins running through it are usually calcite, and the warm orange and peach patches are feldspar, which is why some pieces with a lot of orange are sold as sunset sodalite.
It is often mistaken for lapis lazuli. The easy way to tell them apart is that sodalite rarely carries the gold flecks of pyrite that lapis does, and its blue tends towards a deeper, inkier navy.
Traditional correspondences
Sodalite is traditionally linked with the throat and brow chakras, and with calm, logical thought and honest communication. It is often kept on a desk for study and focus, or held before a difficult conversation. A sodalite sphere is also a lovely companion for meditation and journalling.
Its night sky blue suits moon work too, and the reflective, inward energy of the darker months as the year turns towards Samhain.
Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.
Caring for your sodalite sphere
Sodalite is around 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, softer than quartz, so it can scratch or chip if it rolls off a shelf. Keep it in its stand and away from harder crystals.
Avoid soaking it, as the calcite veins do not like water or anything acidic. A soft dry cloth brings the polish back. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
