Description

A specularite quartz tower, 20cm tall and 476g, cut and polished into a six sided point with a flat base. Milky white quartz runs through the whole body, crossed by dark streaks and blades of specularite, with small sparkling quartz pockets open on several faces. This is the exact tower in the photographs, so the piece you see is the piece you receive.

About this specularite quartz tower

The front face is the brightest, with broad white quartz and a few clean black blades reaching up towards the point. Turn it and the pattern changes. One side is warmer, with honey and caramel tones through the quartz, and another is busier, with dense black and rust brown streaks running almost the full height.

Near the base and through the middle there are open pockets lined with tiny quartz crystals. These catch the light as you move around the tower and give it a lovely sparkle. They are natural cavities in the stone, not damage.

At 20cm it has real presence on a shelf or altar, but it stays slim enough to sit comfortably among other pieces.

What specularite is

Specularite is a form of hematite, the iron oxide mineral, that grows as thin flat blades with a metallic, mirror like shine. The name comes from the Latin for mirror. In this stone those blades grew together with quartz, so the dark lines you see are specularite and the white is quartz.

The black blades can show a soft silvery glint when light hits them at the right angle, while the quartz pockets add a different, frostier sparkle. The warmer brown and honey tones come from iron staining within the quartz.

Traditional correspondences

Hematite has long been treated as a grounding stone, linked with the root chakra and with the planet Mars, steady strength and staying in the body. Quartz is traditionally seen as a clarifier and amplifier. Together, a specularite quartz tower is often kept for grounded focus: a piece for a desk, a doorway or the centre of a grid when you want to feel steady and clear at the same time.

With Samhain close, its black and white markings make it a natural fit for a seasonal altar, a quiet nod to the balance of dark and light as the year turns.

Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.

Caring for your specularite quartz tower

Quartz is hard, around 7 on the Mohs scale, but the specularite blades are a little softer and the open pockets can chip if knocked. Keep it away from the edge of shelves and set it down gently.

Avoid soaking it in water. Water can sit in the pockets, and over time it can mark the iron rich areas with rust coloured staining. A soft dry brush or cloth is all it needs to remove dust. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
