Roman chamomile essential oil (pure) is steam distilled from the flowers of Anthemis nobilis (also known as Chamaemelum nobile), a low-growing aromatic perennial native to Western Europe. Roman chamomile is one of the two most commonly used chamomile species in aromatherapy, the other being German chamomile (Matricaria recutita), which has a distinctly different blue colour and aromatic profile.
This pure Roman chamomile essential oil has a sweet, fruity, apple-like, and intensely herbaceous aroma with warm, slightly earthy undertones. The main aromatic constituents include isobutyl angelate and other esters, which contribute to its characteristic sweet, apple-like fragrance. Roman chamomile is one of the most calming and soothing oils available in aromatherapy and is also one of the more expensive single oils due to the intensive harvest process required.
In aromatherapy, Roman chamomile essential oil is prized for its ability to ease tension, anxiety, and promote restful sleep. It is one of the oils considered gentle enough for use with children (in appropriate dilutions) and is widely used in blends for restless or over-stimulated individuals. It blends beautifully with lavender, bergamot, clary sage, rose, and frankincense.
Roman chamomile is generally well-tolerated but should be avoided during pregnancy. Always dilute before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin care and massage preparations. Not for internal use.
