Description
Black amethyst cut base geodes, chosen piece by piece. Each one is a section of an amethyst geode whose crystal lining has grown so dark it reads as charcoal and black, sparkling under the light like a night sky. That starry look is why black amethyst is also called galaxy amethyst. There are six pieces to choose from, from 11cm to 18cm, each cut flat across the base so it stands on its own.
Choose your black amethyst cut base
- A, 12cm, 1541g, £83. The broadest piece. A deep, sparkling charcoal druzy face, with a hollow cave opening on one side where the crystal lining curls away into darkness.
- B, 11cm, 453g, £37. The smallest of the set. A tall, peaked shape with dense dark druzy and a band of pale blue grey agate along the crown.
- C, 18cm, 2.2kg, £180. The statement piece. Grey black druzy streaked with white crystal lines, with a soft lavender tint along one edge that shows the amethyst beneath the dark colour.
- D, 12cm, 748g, £45. An arched, tombstone shape. Grey druzy traced with flowing white lines, like frost across a dark window.
- E, 11cm, 640g, £38. A rounded face crossed by a raised diagonal ridge, with a swirl of blue grey and cream agate curling up from the base.
- F, 11cm, 681g, £60. The darkest face of the set. Near black druzy flecked with tiny white sparkles, edged with a fine line of white crystal.
Every piece is photographed on its own, and the letter in the dropdown matches the photos, so the black amethyst geode you see is the one you receive.
What black amethyst is
Black amethyst is amethyst, a purple variety of quartz, in which the crystals have grown with dense dark inclusions, usually described as hematite and other iron minerals. The result is a druzy of tiny crystal points in shades from deep grey to near black, often with a hint of the original lavender where the light catches an edge.
A cut base is made by slicing the bottom of a geode flat and polishing it, so the piece stands upright on a shelf or altar. The outer shell is the smooth grey basalt the geode formed inside, and many pieces show a band of agate between the shell and the crystals.
Black amethyst meaning and traditional correspondences
Black amethyst is traditionally seen as a stone that joins the calm of amethyst with the grounding of darker stones. It is linked with the root chakra as well as the third eye and crown, and is often chosen for protection, steady focus and clearing heavy energy from a room.
A black amethyst cut base is often placed by the front door, on a desk, or on the altar during dark moon and Samhain work, when the year turns inward and protection and reflection are the themes.
Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.
Caring for your black amethyst
Amethyst is around 7 on the Mohs scale, but the tiny druzy points can chip if knocked. Dust with a soft brush rather than a cloth, which can snag on the crystals. Keep amethyst out of strong direct sun, as the colour of quartz can soften over time. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
