Description
This blue tigers eye sphere is polished to a deep glossy finish and measures 60mm across. It weighs 298g and comes with a clear sphere stand, so it is ready to display the day it arrives.
It is a single piece, photographed exactly as it is. The sphere in the photos is the one you receive.
What this blue tigers eye sphere looks like
The body is a dark midnight blue, close to navy black in low light. Running through it are curved bands of gold and honey brown that sweep across the surface like brush strokes.
Turn it under a lamp and a soft silvery blue sheen rolls over the dark areas, while the gold bands flash brighter. That moving light is called chatoyancy, and on a round sphere it shows from every side.
About blue tigers eye
Blue tigers eye is a variety of quartz, also known as hawks eye. It forms when quartz grows around fine blue fibres of crocidolite, and the parallel fibres catch the light to create the shimmer.
Where some of those fibres have altered over time, they turn gold, which is why many pieces carry both blue and golden bands. You can read more about the stone on the Gemdat tigers eye page.
It sits at around 7 on the Mohs scale, so it is a sturdy stone for handling.
Blue tigers eye meaning and traditional uses
In crystal practice blue tigers eye is traditionally linked with calm focus, clear thinking and steady communication. It is associated with the throat chakra and with Capricorn.
Where golden tigers eye is often chosen for confidence, the blue variety is usually chosen for keeping a cool head. A sphere is thought to spread a stone’s energy evenly around a room, which makes it a popular choice for a desk or shared space.
Ways people like to use a sphere:
- On a desk as a calm focal point during work or study.
- Held in both hands for a few slow breaths before a difficult conversation.
- At the centre of an altar or crystal grid.
- On a shelf near a lamp, where the bands catch the light in the evening.
Caring for your blue tigers eye sphere
Keep the sphere on its stand when it is not in your hands, as a rolling sphere can chip if it falls. Store it away from harder stones that could scratch the polish.
Wipe it with a soft dry cloth to bring back the shine. Smoke, sound or moonlight are gentle ways to cleanse it, and our crystal cleansing guide covers each method.
