- F, 10cm, 102g, £12. Sage green moss drifting over pale blue grey agate, with white flecks around the tip.
Every piece is photographed on its own, and the letter in the dropdown matches the photos, so the moss agate tower you see is the one you receive.
What moss agate is
Moss agate is a form of chalcedony, a fine grained quartz. Despite the name it holds no real moss: the green threads and clouds are mineral inclusions, often chlorite or hornblende, that grew through the stone in shapes that look like moss, ferns and tiny woodland scenes.
Some towers open into small cavities lined with tiny sparkling quartz crystals, known as druzy, and no two carry the same pattern.
Traditional correspondences
Moss agate is traditionally known as the gardener’s stone, linked with the heart chakra and with growth, patience, abundance and a closer connection to nature. A tower is often placed on a nature altar, beside houseplants or on a desk as a steady reminder of what is being grown.
Its green, living look suits the turning of the seasons, from Ostara and Beltane in spring to the harvest of Mabon.
Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.
Caring for your moss agate tower
Agate is around 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale and takes everyday handling well, but the tip and edges can chip if a tower is knocked over. Stand it on a flat surface away from the edge of a shelf, and keep druzy pockets free of dust with a soft brush. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
