Description

Rhodonite tower, carved and polished into six sided points with flat cut bases. There are five to choose from: three smaller towers between 6cm and 8cm in bright rose pink, and two large 19cm towers where black manganese runs through the pink in fine branching patterns. • A, 6cm, 63g, £10. Deep raspberry pink with a soft sparkle, settling into dark manganese at the base.
• B, 8cm, 93g, £12. Rich rose pink with a bold black manganese patch rising up one side and a paler tip.
• C, 8cm, 73g, £11. Softer, paler pink and translucent grey, with black flecks and small golden patches near the point.
• D, large, 19cm, 664g, £39. Black dendrite veining through rose pink, with peach and soft brown patches lower down.
• E, large, 19cm, 629g, £39. A dense lace of black dendrites over rose pink rhodonite, brighter pink towards the base.

About rhodonite

Rhodonite takes its name from the Greek word for rose. The pink comes from manganese, and the black that runs through it is manganese oxide, so the two colours belong to the same story. In the larger towers the black has spread into fine branching shapes known as dendrites, which can look like tiny trees or ferns caught inside the stone.

Every tower is photographed as it is, without lifting the colour, so the pink and black in each piece are shown clearly.

Traditional correspondences

Rhodonite is traditionally known as a stone of compassion and emotional healing, linked with the heart chakra. It is often reached for when working through forgiveness, letting go of old hurts or rebuilding confidence after a difficult time, and the black is said to add a grounding steadiness to the softness of the pink. A rhodonite tower suits a bedside, a desk or a heart centred altar, and sits naturally alongside rose quartz.

Caring for rhodonite

Rhodonite sits around 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, a little softer than quartz, so keep it away from quartz points and tumblestones that could scratch it. A dry soft cloth is all it needs. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
