    Cleansing is simply the act of removing those stored energies. A cleansed crystal feels lighter, brighter, and “buzzy” to the touch. We recommend cleansing your stones immediately after you receive them, and then regularly depending on how often you use them.

    Method 1: Moonlight (The Moonology Approach)

    This is our favourite method at Mystic Grove because it is gentle, deeply spiritual, and safe for absolutely every type of stone in the mineral kingdom.

    According to ancient lunar wisdom, the Moon acts as a powerful energetic filter. It represents the feminine, the intuitive, and the cycle of release. Placing your crystals under the light of the Moon is the most potent way to cleanse them.

    • The Full Moon: This is the peak of the lunar cycle. The energy is at its brightest and most intense. A Full Moon bath will strip away all negativity and supercharge your stones with high frequency light. It is a deep cleanse.
    • The New Moon: While the Full Moon releases, the New Moon resets. Cleansing at the New Moon is excellent if you want to wipe the slate clean and program your stones for a brand new intention.

    How to do it: Simply place your crystals on a windowsill or outside on the earth overnight.
    Cosmic Note: You do not need clear skies for this to work. The energy of the Moon is present regardless of cloud cover. Even if it is raining, the energy will penetrate through the clouds and the glass of your window.

    Method 2: The Vitality of Sunlight

    While the moon offers soft feminine energy (Yin), the sun provides dynamic, masculine energy (Yang).

    You must be careful with this method. Just as the sun can bleach your curtains, intense direct sunlight can bleach the colour from your crystals, turning vibrant gems pale or white over time.

    • Stones to keep out of the sun: Amethyst (will turn grey), Rose Quartz (will turn white), Citrine, Fluorite, Aquamarine, Kunzite, and Celestite.
    • Sun safe stones: Clear Quartz, Black Tourmaline, Sunstone, Hematite, and Carnelian are happy to bask in the light.

    Method 3: The Element of Water

    Water is perhaps the most intuitive way to cleanse a stone. Just as we wash our hands to remove dirt, we can use water to wash away energetic residue.

    Using Tap Water

    You do not need to overcomplicate this process. The water from your kitchen tap is perfectly fine to use. Simply hold your crystal under a running cold tap for a minute or two. As the water flows over the stone, visualise any stagnant energy being flushed away and going down the drain, leaving your crystal sparkling and revitalised.

    Streams and Natural Sources

    If you wish to deepen your connection to the earth, take your crystals to a natural water source. Holding your stones in a flowing stream or river allows the dynamic energy of nature to wash over them. The constant movement of the water acts as a powerful energetic current that carries away heaviness instantly.

    The Ocean and Salt Water

    For a truly deep cleanse, the beach is unparalleled. Salt is a historic purifier, and the ocean combines the power of salt with the rhythmic energy of the tides. You can rinse your stones in the waves or collect a small bowl of fresh sea water to use at home.

    The “No Water” Rule (Safety First)

    While water is a beautiful cleansing element, it can be destructive to certain stones. Some crystals are chemically porous, soft, or contain metals that will rust or turn toxic when exposed to moisture.

    We know it can be difficult to remember the geological properties of every single stone. However, there is a very simple linguistic trick that can help you guide your intuition.

    The “ITE” Rule

    A helpful cosmic rule of thumb is to look at the name of your crystal. Generally speaking, if a crystal name ends in the letters I T E, it is likely a softer stone that should strictly avoid water. While there are occasional exceptions, this is the safest baseline for a crystal guardian to follow.

    Common Stones to Keep Dry:

    • Selenite: This is a form of gypsum. It is incredibly soft and can dissolve or lose its sheen when wet.
    • Angelite: As the name suggests, it is soft and ethereal. It absorbs moisture and can turn into a paste if left in water.
    • Calcite: All colours of Calcite (Orange, Blue, Green) are too soft for water cleansing.
    • Malachite: This stone contains high copper levels. Water can damage its finish, and the run off water can actually be toxic due to the copper content.
    • Pyrite & Hematite: These are iron based stones. Water will cause them to rust and degrade.

    Method 4: The Power of Smoke

    Smoke cleansing (sometimes called smudging) is an ancient practice used by cultures all over the world to clear stagnant energy from spaces and objects. It works beautifully for crystals that cannot get wet.

    How to do it: Light your preferred incense, sage bundle, or sustainably sourced Palo Santo. Hold your crystal firmly and pass it through the rising smoke for roughly thirty seconds.
    Intention: As you do this, visualise the smoke wrapping around the crystal and carrying away any density, leaving the stone clear and vibrant.

    Method 5: The Earthy Embrace of Rice

    If you have stones that cannot get wet but need a method that feels more physical than smoke, brown rice is an excellent alternative. It is safe, dry, and deeply grounding.

    Rice is naturally absorbent. In a spiritual sense, it draws out negativity and absorbs the density from the stone, leaving it neutral and balanced.

    How to do it: Fill a bowl with dry brown rice. Bury your crystal underneath the grains so it is completely covered. Leave it there for twenty four hours.
    Important Disposal Step: Because the rice has absorbed negative energy, you must not cook or eat it afterwards. Thank the rice for its service and dispose of it in the bin.

    Method 6: Crystal to Crystal Cleansing (Selenite)

    In this guide, we will teach you how to read your crystals like an expert. We will explore how to spot quality, how to identify man made wonders, and how to find the hidden magical features that might be lurking inside your stone.

    Defining Quality: It Is Not Just About Clarity

    In the world of diamonds and precious gemstones, quality is defined by perfection. The clearer the stone, the higher the value. In the world of energetic crystals, however, “quality” is a little more nuanced.

    While we all love a gemmy, clear piece of Quartz, the spiritual value of a stone is not always defined by its visual perfection.

    1. Colour Saturation

    Generally speaking, a higher quality stone will have a deeper, richer colour. A deep, grape jelly violet Amethyst is considered higher grade than a pale, greyish lilac one. A vibrant, deep pink Rose Quartz is rarer than a white pale one.

    Energetic Note: While the grade affects the price, it does not necessarily negate the energy. A pale stone still vibrates. But visually, deep colour is the standard for quality.

    2. Inclusions are Character

    The specks, lines, clouds, and veils inside a stone are called inclusions.     Enhydros

    These are incredibly rare and special. An Enhydro is a crystal that has a bubble of water trapped inside it, moving back and forth like a spirit level. This water is millions of years old. Pure, ancient water that has never been touched by man. These are considered the crystals of purity.

    The Truth About “Fakes” and Man Made Stones

    There is a lot of fear in the crystal community about buying “fake” stones. As your guide, we want to bring some clarity and honesty to this conversation.

    There is a massive difference between a Fake (plastic sold as stone) and a Man Made crystal (a material created by humans that still has beauty).

    The Man Made Wonders

    You may have seen stones that look almost too magical to be real. These include Opalite (a milky, iridescent glass), Goldstone (sparkly reddish brown), and Blue Sandstone (dark blue with glitter).

    Are these natural? No. They are glass.
    Are they bad? Not exactly. While they do not have a crystal lattice, they carry the energy of Colour Therapy and the materials used to make them. Goldstone, for example, is made with copper shavings. Copper is a conductor of energy, so Goldstone is excellent for ambition and drive. Opalite is soothing to the eye and spirit.

    Dyed Stones

    Some stones, like Howlite, are often dyed bright blue to look like Turquoise. Agate slices are often dyed neon pink or purple.

    • How to spot them: Look at the cracks. If the colour is darker and pooled in the cracks of the stone, it has likely been dyed.
    • Our Advice: While the colour is fun, we generally recommend sticking to natural colours where possible to connect with the authentic vibration of the earth.

    The Heat Treatment Debate (Citrine)

    This is the most common question in the crystal world: “Is my Citrine real?”

    Natural Citrine (which is quite rare and expensive) is a pale, smoky champagne colour. Common Citrine (which is bright yellow/orange) is usually Amethyst that has been heated.

    • Is it “Fake”? No. It is still natural Quartz grown by the earth.
    • Does it work? Yes. It still carries the frequency of abundance, solar energy, and the solar plexus.
    • How to tell: Heat treated Citrine usually has an opaque white base and burnt orange tips. Natural Citrine is usually clear and uniform in colour throughout like white wine. Both are powerful, but it is good to know the difference.
