The Full Moon in Aries 2026: the Harvest Moon that asks what you want

The Full Moon in Aries arrives on Saturday 26 September 2026, three days after the autumn equinox, and it is this year’s Harvest Moon. It lights up the oldest question in the zodiac, which is simply this: what do I want, and how much of myself do I give away to keep the peace?

What the Full Moon in Aries Means

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It is cardinal fire, ruled by Mars, and it carries the energy of the first push of a seed through the soil. Aries does not wait to be asked. It knows what it wants and it goes.

Every full moon is an opposition. The Moon sits on one side of the Earth and the Sun sits on the other, and the two signs involved pull against each other like two ends of a rope. This month the Sun has just entered Libra, the sign of partnership, fairness and keeping things pleasant. The Moon stands in Aries, the sign of the self. So the rope runs between me and we.

If you have spent the summer bending around other people’s plans, this full moon tends to make that visible. Small irritations can turn out to be old ones. A request you would usually say yes to may land differently. That is not a sign that anything has gone wrong. It is the light doing what full moon light does, showing what has been growing in the dark.

Libra asks what is fair. Aries asks whether you are still in the room.

The aim is not to pick a side. Nobody thrives on pure Aries, all push and no listening, and nobody thrives on pure Libra either, all harmony and no self. This lunation asks for an honest look at where the balance sits for you right now, and a gentle correction if it has tipped too far.

The Harvest Moon in Aries

Because it falls so close to the equinox, this full moon also carries the title of Harvest Moon. There is something fitting about that. The harvest is the season of counting what came in. The Aries Moon asks you to count yourself among it.

With the date reducing to 9, the number of endings and completion in numerology, the whole weekend leans towards gathering in and closing off rather than starting something new. Aries energy will still be there, so you may feel restless to act. Use that energy to finish, clear and decide.

The Astrology of This Aries Full Moon

Three pieces of this year’s chart make the Full Moon in Aries 2026 different from an ordinary one.

The Moon beside Neptune

Neptune settled into Aries this year, a sign it last passed through in the 1860s and 1870s, and the Moon culminates almost on top of it. Neptune softens edges. It brings intuition, longing and imagination, and it can also bring fog. Some people will feel this full moon as tender and dreamy rather than fiery. If your certainty keeps slipping, that is Neptune. Write your thoughts down rather than trusting them to memory, and give big decisions a few days to settle.

Saturn joins in later

Saturn is also travelling through Aries this year, and the Moon reaches it later in the evening. Saturn is the planet of structure, patience and consequence. Its presence steadies the fire. Whatever you decide under this moon, Saturn asks you to decide it in a way you can actually keep. And because the full moon falls on a Saturday, Saturn’s own day, that note sounds twice.

Mars on the last degree of Cancer

Mars rules Aries, so its position colours the whole lunation. At the time of the full moon it sits on the final degree of Cancer, a water sign that feels its way rather than charging. Emotions are likely to rise to the surface before any clear action does. Let them. The action will follow more cleanly once the feeling has been heard.

The Honest History of the Harvest Moon

Many moon names you see online, such as the Buck Moon, the Sturgeon Moon or the Beaver Moon, come from North American almanac lists and only reached British use recently. The Harvest Moon is different. It is a genuinely English phrase, and the Oxford English Dictionary traces its earliest written evidence to the early 1700s, in the writing of the hymn writer Isaac Watts. You can read the dictionary entry here.

The name is tied to something you can check in the sky. According to the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, which this year fell at 1.06am BST on 23 September. Around the equinox the Moon rises at a shallow angle to the horizon, so for several evenings in a row it comes up soon after sunset rather than almost an hour later each night. Before electric light, that run of bright early evenings gave farmers extra hours to bring the crops in.

The low rising Moon often looks orange or amber. That colour is not special to the Harvest Moon. It comes from moonlight passing through more of the atmosphere near the horizon, the same effect that turns a setting sun red. It is still a beautiful thing to stand and watch.

The autumn equinox is also marked on the Wheel of the Year, the eight point seasonal calendar kept today by people of many paths and none, from witches and nature lovers to gardeners and anyone who simply likes to live closer to the turning seasons. Many know this point as Mabon. The name itself is modern, chosen in the 1970s and borrowed from a figure in Welsh story, while the habit of giving thanks as the harvest comes in is far older and shared across cultures. However you mark it, it belongs to everyone who pauses to notice the light changing. For more on the season itself, our autumn equinox guide sits alongside this post.

Crystals for the Full Moon in Aries

Aries stones are traditionally warm, red and orange, the colours of iron and fire. Libra, on the other side of the axis, is Venus ruled and softer. A good crystal set for this full moon holds both ends of the rope.

Carnelian

An orange chalcedony coloured by iron oxide and one of the oldest worked gemstones. Carnelian is the traditional stone of courage and creative drive, the plainest expression of Aries fire. Find it in our carnelian collection.

Red jasper

Red jasper carries the same colour as carnelian with a quite different feel. It is opaque, dense and slow, a stone of stamina and steadiness. Where carnelian says go, red jasper says keep going. That makes it a natural match for Saturn in Aries.

Bloodstone

Deep green flecked with red, bloodstone has an old association with courage and is traditionally linked with the start of the zodiac year. It holds Aries bravery with a calmer, earthier temper.

Rose quartz

The Libra end of the axis. Rose quartz is the classic Venus stone of warmth, kindness and relationship. On this full moon it reminds you that choosing yourself does not mean closing your heart.

Clear quartz

The great amplifier and the stone of clarity. With Neptune so close to the Moon, clear quartz helps cut through the fog and keeps your intention sharp.

Sunstone

Warm, golden and cheerful, sunstone is linked with confidence and self worth. It suits the part of this full moon that asks you to stop waiting for permission.

The Me and We Crystal Grid

This grid is built along the Aries and Libra axis itself. It uses nine stones, matching the 9 of the date, and every first choice is something ordinary and easy to find.

The Me and We Grid. Solid lines run from the carnelian centre to the four red jasper Way Stones. Dashed lines show the Way Stones carrying that current out to the four outer stones, with bloodstone at the Aries end and rose quartz at the Libra end.

The Focus Stone

First choice: carnelian tumblestone

Carnelian sits at the centre because this is an Aries full moon and the centre holds the intention. Its job here is courage, the push to say what you want out loud. A tumblestone is ideal because you can hold it during the ritual, then set it down in the centre so the grid starts with the warmth of your hand.

If you have a crystal point

A point makes a lovely centre if you have one. Stand it upright in the middle of the grid, tip facing up, so it gathers the circuit and sends your intention outward. A carnelian point is the natural match, but any point you already own and feel drawn to will work. Keep your carnelian tumblestone to hold during the ritual and place the point once you are ready to set the grid.

If you have no carnelian: clear quartz

Clear quartz takes the centre happily, as a tumblestone or a point. It is neutral, so it carries whatever you give it. Speak your intention aloud as you place it, so the stone holds your words rather than a colour correspondence.

Alternative: sunstone tumblestone

Sunstone changes the tone. Carnelian is about the courage to act. Sunstone is about believing you deserve to. If your question is less about speaking up and more about feeling worthy of asking, move sunstone to the centre and put a carnelian or clear quartz tumblestone in the south position instead.

The four red jasper tumblestones are the Way Stones, and they connect the whole circuit. None of the outer stones receives from the carnelian directly. Everything passes through the red jasper first.

What they carry is the carnelian’s fire, but they slow it down. Red jasper takes that quick Aries spark and turns it into steady heat, the Saturn lesson of this lunation. By the time the energy reaches the outer ring it is courage you can sustain rather than a flare that burns out by Tuesday.

No red jasper? Use four clear quartz tumblestones and say the word “steady” aloud as you place each one.

The Outer Stones

West, the Aries end: bloodstone tumblestone

Bloodstone sits at the self end of the axis. It holds your own needs with calm conviction rather than defensiveness. If you are short of bloodstone, a second carnelian tumblestone or a red jasper works here.

East, the Libra end: rose quartz tumblestone

Rose quartz sits opposite, at the end that stands for the people you love and share your life with. Placing both ends in one grid makes the point of the whole practice. You are not choosing between them. You are finding a fairer line between them. A clear quartz tumblestone can stand in if needed.

North: clear quartz tumblestone

Clear quartz at the north holds clarity against the Neptune fog. A tumblestone is all you need. If you have a small clear quartz point, lay it with the tip facing outward so it sends out whatever the grid releases.

South: sunstone tumblestone

Sunstone at the south anchors self worth, the warm permission to take up space. A carnelian tumblestone can replace it.

Stone count: one Focus Stone, four Way Stones and four outer stones, nine in total.

If you are short of stones: place one carnelian or clear quartz in the centre and a single clear quartz at each end of an imaginary line running left to right. Say “this is mine” as you place the left stone and “this is shared” as you place the right. Three stones, spoken clearly, still hold the axis. For more on laying a circuit, see our guide on how to build and wire a crystal grid.

A Simple Full Moon in Aries Ritual

If you have ten quiet minutes and very little else, this is enough. It follows the traditional full moon pattern of release and gratitude.

  • Light one candle. A red candle suits Aries best, but any candle you have will hold the moment.
  • Hold one stone. A carnelian tumblestone if you have one, or clear quartz if you do not. Rest it against your breastbone.
  • Breathe. In for four, out for six, five times. Let your shoulders drop on each out breath.
  • Say one sentence out loud. Begin it with “I choose” and finish it with something you want for yourself. Say it twice.
  • Let one thing go. Say out loud one habit you are ready to put down, then blow gently across the stone as if clearing dust from it.
  • Close. Snuff the candle and place the stone where the moonlight can reach it overnight.

A Deeper Aries Full Moon Ritual

When you have a full evening to give it, this longer ritual brings in the grid, two candles and a release by fire. Like the simple version, it follows the traditional shape of full moon release.

What you need

  • Your grid stones, or the three stone version above
  • Two candles: one red, for the Aries side, and one pink, for the Libra side. Our spell candles include red root candles and pink friendship candles that suit this well
  • A singing bowl, a bell or anything that rings clearly. Our singing bowls include moon phase designs
  • A pen and a small piece of paper
  • A heatproof dish or small cauldron, if you want to burn what you release

The practice

1. Arrive

Sit with your feet flat on the floor. Strike the bowl once and listen to the note until it has fully faded. The silence after the sound is part of the practice. Let your breath slow into it.

2. Light the two sides

Light the red candle on your left and say, “This is for me.” Light the pink candle on your right and say, “This is for the people I love.” Notice whether one sentence feels easier to say than the other. That difference is useful information.

3. Hold the fire

Pick up your carnelian and hold it against your breastbone. Breathe in through the nose for a count of four and out through the mouth for a count of six, five times. Each time you breathe out, let your shoulders drop a little. Feel the stone warm to your skin.

4. Speak what you want

Still holding the stone, say out loud, in one sentence, something you want for yourself that you have been putting second. Keep it plain and specific. Aries does not do waffle. Say it a second time, a little louder. Feel where the words land in your body, whether in the throat, chest or belly.

5. Write what you are releasing

On the paper, write one habit of self abandonment you are ready to put down. It might be saying yes before you have checked with yourself, or apologising for having a preference. Fold the paper away from you.

6. Release by fire

If it is safe to do so, light the folded paper from the red candle and let it burn in the heatproof dish. Otherwise tear it into small pieces. Strike the bowl again as it burns and listen until the sound is gone.

7. Set the grid

Place the carnelian in the centre. Lay the four red jasper Way Stones around it, saying “steady” with each one. Then place the outer stones: bloodstone to the left with “me”, rose quartz to the right with “we”, clear quartz at the top and sunstone at the bottom.

8. Close

Strike the bowl a final time. Snuff the candles rather than blowing them out, and leave the grid in place for about a week, until the Moon reaches its last quarter.

Never leave a burning candle or smouldering paper unattended, and keep flames away from anything that can catch.

Making Full Moon in Aries Moon Water

Moon water is simply water left out under the full moon and kept for later use. Many people make a fresh jar at every full moon and give each one the flavour of the sign it was made in. Aries moon water is traditionally kept for courage, fresh starts and anything that needs a little fire behind it.

  • Use clean water in a glass jar with a lid. Tap water or spring water both work. The lid keeps out insects and dust.
  • Speak your intention over it. Hold the jar in both hands, feel its weight and coolness, and say what you want the water to hold. For this moon, something as simple as “courage” is plenty.
  • Set it out after moonrise. Tonight the Moon rises around half past six. A windowsill, doorstep or garden all work, and cloud does not stop the practice.
  • Bring it in before sunrise and label it with the date and the sign.
  • Use it with care. Add a splash to a ritual bath, water your plants with it, anoint a candle, or wipe down your altar. Only drink it if you used drinking water and a clean container, and never leave crystals sitting in water you intend to drink.

Some crystals should never go into water at all. Selenite dissolves, and several softer or metallic stones can be damaged or can leach into the water. If you want a crystal involved, stand it beside the jar or on the lid rather than inside. There is more on this in our guide to moon water and lunar elixirs.

Cleansing and Charging Your Crystals at the Full Moon

The full moon is the traditional night to clear your crystals of everything they have been holding and give them a fresh start. A Harvest Moon, with its sense of gathering in and clearing out, suits it especially well.

Cleanse first

  • Sound. Strike a singing bowl or bell beside your stones and let the note run until it fades completely. Repeat three times. This is gentle, safe for every stone, and one of the easiest methods if you work by feel and sound.
  • Selenite. Rest your stones on a selenite bowl or charging plate overnight. Keep selenite itself away from water.
  • Smoke. Pass each stone slowly through the smoke of incense, with a window open.

Then charge

Lay your cleansed stones on a windowsill or outdoors where the moonlight can reach them, from moonrise tonight until morning. Hold each one briefly as you set it down and say what you would like it to help with over the coming month. Bring them in before strong sunlight, since some stones, rose quartz and amethyst among them, can fade in the sun.

For a fuller walk through, see our guides on how to cleanse crystals and how to charge and programme your crystals.

Things to Do This Full Moon Weekend

  • Finish something. With the date adding up to 9, this is a weekend for completing rather than starting. Pick one loose end and tie it off.
  • Say one honest no. Aries opposite Libra is the perfect moment to decline one thing you would normally agree to out of habit.
  • Ask for one thing you want. Keep it small and clear. Practising the asking matters more than the size of the request.
  • Clear a space. Tidy your altar, a shelf or a drawer. Clearing out is harvest work.
  • Step outside after moonrise. Stand for a few minutes, feel the cooler autumn air on your skin and listen to the evening. Saturn sits close to the Moon tonight if the sky is clear.
  • Move your body. Aries is a physical sign. A brisk walk, a dance around the kitchen or some stretching helps burn off restless energy.
  • Hold off on big decisions until Monday. With Neptune beside the Moon, give strong feelings a day or two to settle before you act on them.
  • Give thanks for the harvest. Say out loud three things that came good for you since the spring.

Journal Prompts for the Full Moon in Aries

  • Where have I been making myself smaller to keep things calm?
  • What do I want that I have not said out loud yet?
  • Which of my relationships feels fair, and which feels one sided?
  • What has been harvested in my life since the spring, and what did I plant that did not grow?
  • What is one thing I can finish this weekend, rather than start?

Back in April, the Aries New Moon planted a seed in this same sign. If you kept a note of your intention then, this is a good weekend to read it back and see how far it has come.
