Description
Carrot seed essential oil is steam distilled from the dried seeds of Daucus carota, the wild carrot or Queen Anne’s Lace, a biennial herb native to Europe and southwest Asia. This should not be confused with carrot CO2 extract or carrot macerated oil, which are produced differently and have distinct compositions and uses.
Carrot seed essential oil has a warm, earthy, woody, and slightly sweet herbal aroma with dry, slightly medicinal undertones and a faint, distant connection to carrot root. The main aromatic constituents include carotol, daucol, and geranyl acetate, with carotol (a sesquiterpene alcohol) typically present as the dominant component. The oil has a complex, subtle character that makes it more of a supporting note in perfumery and blending than a standalone fragrance.
In aromatherapy, carrot seed essential oil is particularly valued in natural skin care for its reputed regenerative and toning properties. It is a popular ingredient in formulations for mature, tired, or dull skin. It is also used in massage blends for general wellbeing and vitality support. Carrot seed oil blends well with cedarwood, geranium, lavender, bergamot, and other herbaceous and woody oils.
Carrot seed essential oil is generally well-tolerated and considered one of the safer essential oils for skin application when diluted. Always dilute before applying to skin. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin care and massage preparations. Not for internal use.
