Description
May Chang essential oil is steam distilled from the berries of Litsea cubeba, a small deciduous tree native to China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. The plant is also known as mountain pepper or aromatic litsea, and it bears small, pepper-like berries that produce one of the most intensely lemon-like essential oils available.
May Chang essential oil has a fresh, intensely lemony, slightly floral, and slightly herbal aroma. The dominant constituents are citral (a mixture of neral and geranial), typically present at 65 to 85%, which is the compound primarily responsible for the bright lemon character. May Chang contains a higher citral content than lemon essential oil itself, making it the go-to lemon fragrance in many applications.
In aromatherapy, May Chang essential oil is used in uplifting and refreshing diffuser blends. Its clean, bright lemon character makes it popular for room sprays, cleaning products, and personal care formulations. It blends beautifully with other citrus oils, lavender, geranium, eucalyptus, and cedar wood. In natural skincare, citral can sensitise the skin, so May Chang should be used at low dilutions.
May Chang essential oil is phototoxic and a potential skin sensitiser when used undiluted. Always dilute to 1% or less for skin application and avoid sun exposure after use. This 10ml bottle is suitable for diffusers, oil burners, and diluted blends. Not for internal use.
