Sweet orange essential oil is cold pressed from the outer peel of Citrus sinensis, the sweet orange tree native to China and now cultivated worldwide. It is one of the most widely used and recognised essential oils globally, valued for its fresh, cheerful, and universally appealing citrus scent.
Sweet orange essential oil has a bright, warm, round, and sweet citrus aroma that is softer and less sharp than grapefruit or lemon. The dominant constituent is limonene, typically present at 85 to 96%, which is responsible for the clean, uplifting citrus character. The oil also contains myrcene and smaller amounts of other terpenes that contribute to its rounded, fruity quality.
In aromatherapy, sweet orange essential oil is one of the most popular oils for home diffusion. Its cheerful, comforting scent is widely used to create warm, welcoming atmospheres and to lift mood.
