Parsley seed essential oil is steam distilled from the seeds of Petroselinum crispum, common parsley, a biennial herb native to the central Mediterranean and now one of the most widely cultivated culinary herbs in the world. Parsley seed oil is distinct from parsley leaf oil and has a significantly different aromatic and chemical composition.
Parsley seed essential oil has a warm, spicy, herbal, and slightly woody aroma with earthy undertones. The main constituent is apiol, a phenylpropanoid compound present at 15 to 30%, alongside myristicin and other compounds. This gives the oil a distinctive, somewhat sharp and medicinal herbal-spice character that is quite different from the fresh, green scent of the herb itself. The oil has a complex, multi-layered aromatic profile.
In aromatherapy, parsley seed essential oil is used in small amounts in massage blends and diffuser preparations. It is sometimes included in preparations supporting the circulatory and urinary systems. It blends well with clary sage, rosemary, oregano, and other herbaceous oils, as well as with citrus oils for more rounded blends. It is a useful addition to herb-forward fragrance compositions in natural perfumery.
Parsley seed essential oil should not be used during pregnancy due to its apiol content, which has emmenagogue properties. Always dilute before skin application. This 10ml bottle is for use in diffusers and well-diluted blends only. Not for internal use. Keep out of reach of children.
