Description

Patchouli essential oil is steam distilled from the dried, fermented leaves of Pogostemon cablin, a small bushy perennial native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, Indonesia, and India. Patchouli leaves are fermented before distillation, a process that develops the characteristic deep, complex aroma that makes patchouli one of the most distinctive essential oils in existence.

Patchouli essential oil has a rich, deep, earthy, musty, and slightly sweet aroma with woody, balsamic, and slightly medicinal undertones. The dominant constituent is patchoulol, a sesquiterpene alcohol present at 30 to 40%, which is primarily responsible for the oil’s characteristic earthy, musky depth. Like vetiver and sandalwood, patchouli has a very slow evaporation rate and improves and deepens with age.

In aromatherapy, patchouli essential oil is used for its grounding, calming, and sensually warming properties. It is one of the most widely used base note fixatives in natural perfumery and is a classic ingredient in oriental, woody, and chypre fragrance compositions. In skin care, patchouli is used in preparations for dry, mature, and problem skin. It blends beautifully with sandalwood, vetiver, rose, jasmine, bergamot, frankincense, and ylang ylang.

Patchouli essential oil is generally well-tolerated and safe for most skin types. Its strong aroma should be used sparingly in blends. Always dilute before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin and massage preparations. Not for internal use.
