Ravensara essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Ravensara aromatica, an evergreen tree endemic to Madagascar. It is one of the key therapeutic oils from that island, sometimes called the “wonder plant” of Madagascar by local herbalists. Note that ravensara is distinct from ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora), another Madagascan oil that is sometimes confused with it.
Ravensara essential oil has a fresh, clean, slightly camphoraceous aroma with light spicy and medicinal notes. Its primary constituents include methyl chavicol (estragole) and sabinene, giving it a character that sits between eucalyptus and anise. The oil has a cleaner, brighter scent than many similar camphoraceous oils.
In aromatherapy, ravensara essential oil is used in diffuser blends for respiratory support and general wellness during the colder months. It is considered a gentle yet effective oil that is suitable for use in room diffusion and inhalation blends. It combines well with eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender, rosemary, and thyme essential oils for respiratory and immune-supporting diffuser blends.
Ravensara essential oil is generally well-tolerated and considered one of the milder camphoraceous oils. It should still be diluted before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted blends. Not for internal use. Keep out of reach of children.
