Rose geranium essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and stalks of Pelargonium graveolens or Pelargonium roseum, aromatic plants in the geranium family native to South Africa. The common geranium essential oil and rose geranium are closely related and often confused; rose geranium has a slightly more floral and rose-like character compared to standard geranium oil.
Rose geranium essential oil has a sweet, floral, slightly rosy, and herbaceous aroma with soft green and fruity undertones. The main aromatic constituents include citronellol, geraniol, and linalool, which together create its complex, multi-layered floral character.
