Description
Tangerine essential oil is cold pressed from the outer peel of Citrus reticulata, the tangerine or mandarin orange. Tangerine and mandarin oils come from related varieties of the same citrus species. Tangerine oil is typically cold pressed from the bright orange-red skinned varieties common in North America and parts of Asia, while “mandarin” more commonly refers to the European-grown varieties.
Tangerine essential oil has a sweet, fresh, and bright orange-citrus aroma with a warm, slightly candied quality. It is one of the softest and sweetest citrus oils available, similar to mandarin but with a slightly brighter, more vivid top note. The dominant constituent is limonene at 85 to 95%, with additional gamma-terpinene and alpha-pinene contributing to its layered citrus character.
In aromatherapy, tangerine essential oil is used for its uplifting and calming effects. Like mandarin, it is considered one of the gentler citrus oils and is frequently recommended for use with children and during pregnancy (in low dilutions and appropriate use). It creates a cheerful, sweet atmosphere in diffuser blends and is commonly used in calming preparations. It blends well with lavender, bergamot, geranium, neroli, and ylang ylang.
Tangerine essential oil is generally well-tolerated. As a cold-pressed citrus oil, there is mild phototoxic potential; avoid direct sun exposure after skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for diffusers, oil burners, and diluted blends. Not for internal use.
