Description
Vetiver essential oil (sometimes spelled vetivert) is steam distilled from the roots of Vetiveria zizanioides, a tall, clumping grass native to India, now cultivated across tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia, West Africa, and the Caribbean. Vetiver is often called the “oil of tranquillity” in India and Sri Lanka for its deeply calming and grounding properties.
Vetiver essential oil has a deep, earthy, woody, smoky, and slightly sweet aroma with complex green, leathery, and balsamic undertones. It is one of the heaviest and most complex essential oils, with a very slow evaporation rate that makes it an exceptional fixative in natural perfumery. The main aromatic constituents include khusimol, alpha-vetivone, beta-vetivone, and various sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpene alcohols that give it its unique, multi-layered, deep character.
In aromatherapy, vetiver essential oil is used in grounding and deeply calming preparations. It is one of the primary oils for anxiety and over-stimulation, valued for its ability to anchor and centre. It is a key ingredient in sleep support and relaxation blends, often combined with lavender, Roman chamomile, frankincense, and sandalwood. In natural perfumery, vetiver is an indispensable base note fixative used in oriental, woody, and chypre fragrance compositions.
Vetiver essential oil is generally well-tolerated and considered one of the safer essential oils for skin application. Always dilute before use. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin and massage preparations. Not for internal use.
