Bulgarian lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia grown in Bulgaria, particularly in the Rose Valley (Kazanlak Valley) region known for producing some of the world’s finest aromatic plants. Bulgarian lavender is highly regarded by aromatherapists and perfumers as a premium variety of true lavender.
Bulgarian lavender essential oil has a sweet, rich, floral, and herbaceous aroma with soft woody and slightly fruity undertones. Compared to other lavender-growing regions, Bulgarian lavender is often described as having a particularly full, rounded, and complex character. The main aromatic constituents are linalyl acetate (typically 35 to 50%) and linalool (typically 25 to 38%), which together create its characteristic smooth, floral-sweet character.
In aromatherapy, lavender essential oil is the most widely used oil available, prized for its broad range of applications including stress relief, sleep support, skin care, and as a versatile blending oil. Bulgarian lavender is used in exactly the same way as other true lavender oils, with the distinction being the quality and complexity of its aroma. It blends with essentially any other essential oil and is particularly harmonious with bergamot, clary sage, chamomile, geranium, and cedarwood.
