The banding is the first thing you notice. Fine lines run in loops and waves across the body of the stone, the way agate does when it builds up in layers rather than growing as a single crystal. The body here is pale pink, close to blush, and the bands running through it carry a soft blue that most flower agate does not have. Pink and blue together is what makes this one worth looking at twice.
Then the flowers. Pale plume shapes sit scattered across this flower agate sphere, some sharp and round like blossom heads, others soft and blurred at the edges as though seen through water. They are what gives the stone its name, and they sit deeper in some faces than others, so the sphere reads differently depending on which way it is turned.
What this flower agate sphere looks like in person
Three open pockets break the surface, lined with small sparkling crystal. They catch light at an angle rather than head on, so the sphere goes from quiet and matte to glittering depending on where you stand.
Those pockets are also why it weighs what it does. A solid agate sphere this size would be nearer 260g. At 201g the hollows run some way in rather than sitting on the surface, which means this flower agate sphere feels lighter in the hand than it looks.
The polish is high and even across the closed faces. Around each pocket the surface stays natural and slightly rough, because there was nothing solid there to polish.

Flower agate is worked with for beginnings. Traditional practice puts it with plans that are still seeds, with the gap between wanting something and starting it, and with the self doubt that lives in that gap. The blossom shapes inside the stone are read as potential already present in the material rather than something to be added.
It is a steady stone rather than a pushy one. Where carnelian is reached for to start a thing quickly, a flower agate sphere is reached for when the thing needs to take root first. That makes it a common choice at a new moon, at the turn of a year, or at the start of anything that will take a while to show.
A sphere sends in all directions rather than pointing, which is why spheres tend to be kept in shared rooms rather than on a working altar.

Caring for your flower agate sphere
Agate sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for daily handling and soft enough to scuff against other quartz. Keep this flower agate sphere clear of points and clusters, and away from anything gritty.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight as a matter of course. A bright room is fine, a south facing sill in summer is not.
The crystal inside the pockets is fragile at the tips. Dust it with a dry soft brush and leave it at that. Water pools in a pocket like this and dries with a mark, so keep it out.
Spheres roll. Keep this one in its stand when it is not being handled, and lift it with two hands rather than one.
