Description
Cedarwood Virginian essential oil is steam distilled from the wood of Juniperus virginiana, also known as the Eastern Red Cedar, a coniferous tree native to eastern North America. Despite its name, Juniperus virginiana is actually a species of juniper rather than a true cedar. It is one of two main cedarwood essential oils commercially available, the other being Cedarwood Atlas from Morocco.
Cedarwood Virginian essential oil has a dry, warm, woody aroma with a soft, pencil-shaving quality and hints of smoky sweetness. The dominant constituents include cedrol, alpha-cedrene, and thujopsene, which together give the oil its characteristic dry, grounding character. Compared to Cedarwood Atlas, the Virginian variety tends to have a drier and slightly more medicinal note.
In aromatherapy, cedarwood Virginian essential oil is used in grounding and calming diffuser blends. Its warm, woody character makes it a natural fit for relaxation and sleep-support preparations. It is a widely used base note in natural perfumery and blends well with sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, lavender, bergamot, and frankincense.
Cedarwood Virginian essential oil is used in hair care products for its effects on the scalp and in massage blends when diluted in a carrier oil. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin and hair preparations. Always dilute before applying to skin. Not for internal use.
