Description
Cinnamon essential oil is steam distilled from either the bark or leaves of Cinnamomum verum (also known as Cinnamomum zeylanicum), the true cinnamon tree native to Sri Lanka. Cinnamon bark oil and cinnamon leaf oil have distinct aromatic profiles; bark oil is sweeter and more intense, while leaf oil is spicier and has a slightly different chemical composition.
The aroma of cinnamon essential oil is warm, rich, spicy, and distinctively sweet, immediately recognisable from its use in baking and cooking worldwide. The main constituent of cinnamon bark oil is cinnamaldehyde, responsible for its characteristic sweet-spicy character. Cinnamon leaf oil is higher in eugenol, giving it a spicier, more clove-like note.
In aromatherapy, cinnamon essential oil is used as a warming and stimulating oil. In diffusers it creates an inviting, comforting atmosphere and blends beautifully with clove, orange, ginger, cardamom, and frankincense in classic winter warmth blends. It is particularly popular during autumn and winter months for room diffusion.
Cinnamon essential oil is a potent skin irritant and sensitiser, particularly the bark variety. It must be used at very low dilutions (0.1 to 0.5%) when applied to the skin, and should be avoided on sensitive skin. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and well-diluted blends. Not for internal use.
