Description
Clove leaf essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Syzygium aromaticum, the clove tree native to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia, now cultivated across tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. Clove essential oil is available in three grades: bud, leaf, and stem, with leaf oil being the most affordable and widely used.
Clove leaf essential oil has a warm, spicy, rich aroma with a slightly woody character and less sweetness than clove bud oil. The dominant constituent is eugenol, typically present at 70 to 90%, which is responsible for the characteristic clove scent and also has well-documented analgesic and antiseptic properties. Eugenol is also found in cinnamon leaf, basil, and bay laurel oils.
In aromatherapy, clove leaf essential oil is used in small amounts in warming and stimulating diffuser blends, particularly in winter or cold-weather preparations. It blends well with orange, lemon, bergamot, cinnamon, ginger, and cedarwood. Due to its high eugenol content, it is a skin irritant and should be used in very low dilutions, typically no more than 0.5% in a carrier oil.
Clove leaf essential oil is not suitable for use on children, sensitive skin, or during pregnancy. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and well-diluted blends only. Always dilute before skin application. Not for internal use.
