English lavender essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia grown in England. English lavender is considered the finest quality true lavender, known for its lower camphor content and higher linalool and linalyl acetate content compared to lavandin varieties. English-grown lavender has a particularly delicate, refined, and complex floral character.
The aroma of English lavender essential oil is sweet, floral, and herbaceous with a clean, fresh top note and a soft, slightly woody dry-down. The high linalyl acetate content (typically 25 to 45%) contributes to its smooth, somewhat fruity, apple-like quality, while linalool adds the classic floral lavender character. English lavender is widely regarded as the gold standard in lavender aromatherapy.
