Litha

Litha is the summer solstice, around 21 June, the longest day of the year and the sun at the height of its power. Midsummer has always been a time of celebration, of bonfires, gathered herbs and long light evenings, and in folklore it is the night the fair folk draw closest.

Setting a Litha altar

Yellow, gold and orange candles, sunflowers, and herbs such as lavender and chamomile make a bright Litha altar. Many people rise to watch the sunrise, or gather herbs at their freshest to dry for the year ahead.
