Description
Sunstone tower, carved and polished into points with flat cut bases. There are three to choose from: one large statement tower at 26cm and two smaller towers at 9cm. The letter in the dropdown matches the photo, so the tower you see is the tower you receive.
Choose your sunstone tower
- Large, 26cm, 2.1kg, £62. Four faces rising to a point, with peach and dusky salmon sunstone running through cream feldspar, defined patches of black tourmaline near the tip and small pale green zones. Heavy enough to stand on a hearth or floor as easily as a shelf.
- A, 9cm, 75g, £12. A six sided point, pale cream with soft peach sunstone throughout, a few small dark flecks and touches of golden yellow near the top.
- B, 9cm, 75g, £12. A six sided point with brighter orange sunstone glowing through clear and milky feldspar, and a dark band of black tourmaline across the middle.
- C, 20cm, 656g, £45. A tall point in snowy white feldspar, flecked with salmon and coral sunstone, with soft sea green patches and a few dark spots of tourmaline.
Why it is called sunstone
Tilt a sunstone tower under a lamp and the peach areas throw a coppery glitter. It comes from tiny platelets of hematite caught inside the feldspar, catching light from within rather than off the polish. It appears and disappears as the piece turns, and it will not show at all in flat light, so it is worth turning your tower slowly by a window or a lamp.
Sunstone is natural, and fine internal lines are part of the stone. Every tower is photographed as it is, without lifting the colour.
Traditional correspondences
Sunstone is kept in older practice as a stone of warmth and outward movement, linked with the returning light, joy and saying yes to things. It is traditionally associated with the sacral and solar plexus chakras, and is usually reached for when something has been decided and now needs carrying out. Through the darker months it is a lovely way to keep a little of the sun on the altar.
Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.
Caring for sunstone
Feldspar sits around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, a little softer than quartz, so keep your sunstone tower clear of quartz points and tumblestones, which can scratch it. Feldspar can also split along its natural cleavage if knocked, which matters most with the large tower, so set it down gently.
A dry soft cloth is all it needs. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
