Lammas

Lammas, also called Lughnasadh, falls on 1 August and marks the first harvest of the year. Its name comes from the Old English for loaf mass, when bread baked from the first grain was blessed and shared. It is a time of gratitude for what has grown, and of gathering in before the turn towards autumn.

Setting a Lammas altar

A small loaf, sheaves of wheat or corn, and gold, yellow and orange candles make a simple Lammas altar. Many people bake bread, give thanks for the year so far and set intentions for abundance.

Lammas crystals

Golden tigers eye, citrine, pyrite and mookaite are traditionally kept for abundance, gratitude and grounded strength. Our Wheel of the Year crystal set gathers seven tumblestones for Lammas.
