Description
Clary sage essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of Salvia sclarea, a biennial or short-lived perennial herb native to the Mediterranean basin and central Asia. Clary sage is distinct from common sage (Salvia officinalis) in both its botanical characteristics and its aromatic and chemical profile. The name “clary” is derived from the Latin word for clear, a reference to its historical use in eye care preparations.
Clary sage essential oil has a warm, herbal, slightly floral, and somewhat nutty aroma with earthy and sweet undertones. The dominant aromatic constituents are linalyl acetate (typically 55 to 75%) and linalool, which give the oil a smooth, rounded, slightly wine-like character. Clary sage has one of the highest linalyl acetate contents of any essential oil, even higher than lavender.
In aromatherapy, clary sage is one of the most valued oils for women’s wellbeing, commonly used in blends for menstrual support, hormonal balance, and menopause management. It is also a deeply relaxing oil used in stress, anxiety, and sleep preparations. Clary sage has a slight euphoric quality and has traditionally been associated with vivid dreams. It blends beautifully with lavender, bergamot, geranium, rose, jasmine, and other florals and citrus oils.
Clary sage essential oil should not be used during pregnancy. It should be avoided when driving or operating machinery as it may cause drowsiness. Always dilute before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin and massage preparations. Not for internal use.
