Scots pine essential oil is steam distilled from the needles, twigs, and sometimes bark of Pinus sylvestris, the Scots pine, a coniferous tree native to northern Europe and Asia. It is the only pine species native to the British Isles and is one of the most widely cultivated pine trees in the world. The Scots pine is the dominant tree of the Caledonian Forest, the ancient native forest of Scotland.
Scots pine essential oil has a fresh, clean, sharp, and resinous woody aroma with green, balsamic, and turpentine-like notes. The main aromatic constituents include alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, and limonene, which together create its characteristic crisp, forest-air quality. It is one of the most authentically “forest” smelling of the conifer oils and is widely used to create Nordic and forest-themed fragrance blends.
In aromatherapy, Scots pine essential oil is used in invigorating, cleansing, and respiratory support diffuser blends. It is associated with clearing the air and creating a fresh, clean atmosphere, and is commonly included in winter wellness preparations. In massage blends, diluted pine oil is used for its warming and stimulating effects on the circulation. It blends well with other conifer and resinous oils including fir, spruce, cedarwood, juniper, and frankincense.
Scots pine essential oil should be diluted before skin application. Old or oxidised pine oils can cause skin sensitisation, so store in a cool, dark place and use within the recommended period. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted blends. Not for internal use.
