Description
Lemongrass essential oil is steam distilled from the fresh or dried leaves of Cymbopogon flexuosus (East Indian lemongrass) or Cymbopogon citratus (West Indian lemongrass), tall aromatic grasses native to tropical Asia. Lemongrass is extensively used in Asian cooking, particularly in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, and its essential oil is one of the most popular and affordable citrus-lemon scented oils.
Lemongrass essential oil has an intensely fresh, lemony, grassy, and slightly herbaceous aroma. The dominant constituents are citral (a mixture of neral and geranial), typically present at 65 to 85%, which is responsible for the oil’s characteristic sharp, fresh lemon character. Lemongrass contains a higher citral content than lemon essential oil, making it one of the strongest lemon-scented oils available.
In aromatherapy, lemongrass essential oil is used in uplifting, deodorising, and insect-deterrent diffuser blends. It is widely used in sports and massage preparations due to its invigorating character when diluted and applied topically. It is a popular ingredient in candle making, cleaning products, and natural fragrance applications. Lemongrass blends well with geranium, lavender, basil, cedarwood, coriander, and other citrus oils.
Lemongrass essential oil can be a skin sensitiser and should be used at low dilutions (1% or less) for skin application. Avoid use on sensitive skin. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, candle making, and diluted skin and massage blends. Not for internal use.
