Description

Rosemary essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of Rosmarinus officinalis (now also classified as Salvia rosmarinus), a woody, aromatic shrub native to the Mediterranean region. Rosemary is one of the most widely used culinary herbs in the world and has a long history in both traditional medicine and as a symbol of remembrance in European culture.

Rosemary essential oil has a fresh, clean, herbaceous, and camphoraceous aroma with woody and slightly medicinal notes. The main aromatic constituents vary by chemotype (the most common are the ct. camphor, ct. cineole, and ct. verbenone varieties), but typically include 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), camphor, and alpha-pinene. The cineole-rich variety is the most common in aromatherapy and has the freshest, most herbaceous character.

In aromatherapy, rosemary essential oil is one of the most widely used stimulating and invigorating oils. It is used in diffuser blends designed to improve concentration and mental clarity, in hair care preparations for the scalp, and in energising massage preparations for muscles and circulation. It is a key ingredient in many sports and warming massage blends. Rosemary blends well with lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, basil, tea tree, and citrus oils.

Rosemary essential oil should be avoided during pregnancy and by those with epilepsy or high blood pressure. Always dilute before skin application. This 10ml bottle is suitable for use in diffusers, oil burners, and diluted skin and hair preparations. Not for internal use.
