Description

This clear selenite slab is a single piece, photographed here, and it is the exact one you will receive. It is a tall, narrow slab that stands upright on its own flat base.

About this clear selenite slab

The outline rises from a straight base to an angled top edge, a little like a standing stone. The body is clear through the centre with the typical fine striations running lengthways, and the base has been cut flat so it stands without a holder.

Clear selenite is a transparent form of gypsum. It forms in flat, layered plates, and those layers catch the light as fine parallel lines running through the body. Look closely and you will see small steps and ripples on the surface where the layers meet. These are natural growth features rather than damage.

Because every slab is cut from a different plate, no two match. The clarity, the line pattern and the outline of this piece are its own.

How people use clear selenite

A tall standing slab works well on a shelf, a windowsill out of direct rain or damp, or at the back of an altar where the light can pass through it.

In crystal practice selenite is traditionally linked with clarity, calm and cleansing. Many people keep a piece on an altar or rest other crystals beside it between uses. These are traditional associations and part of a personal practice. They are not a substitute for medical or professional advice.

Caring for your clear selenite slab

Selenite is very soft, around 2 on the Mohs scale, so a fingernail can mark it. Handle it gently and keep it away from harder stones that could scratch it.

Keep it dry. Selenite dissolves slowly in water and the surface will cloud or pit if it gets wet, so never cleanse it under a tap, in salt water or in a moon water bowl. A soft dry cloth or a light brush is all it needs.

The layered edges can be fragile, so place it down rather than dropping it onto a hard surface.
