High alpine lavender essential oil is steam distilled from Lavandula angustifolia grown at high altitude in the Alps, typically above 1,000 metres. At high altitude, lavender grows more slowly and in cooler conditions, which is widely believed to concentrate the aromatic compounds in the plant and produce an oil with a particularly refined, complex, and delicate character.
High alpine lavender essential oil has an exceptionally pure, sweet, floral, and fine quality, with a very clean, refined lavender character that is regarded by many aromatherapists and perfumers as the most exquisite expression of lavender available. The linalyl acetate content of high altitude lavender can be notably higher than standard lavender, contributing to its smooth, rounded, and slightly fruity-floral top note.
