Description
Palo santo essential oil is steam distilled from the heartwood of Bursera graveolens, a wild tree native to South America, particularly Peru and Ecuador. The name palo santo translates from Spanish as “holy wood,” and the tree has a long history of traditional use in South American cultures.
The oil has a rich, warm, woody scent with light citrus and mint undertones. It is one of the more unusual essential oils on the market, as the wood must age naturally on the forest floor for several years after falling before it develops its characteristic aroma compounds. Sustainably harvested palo santo wood only comes from naturally fallen trees.
In aromatherapy, palo santo essential oil is widely used in diffusers to create a calming, grounding atmosphere. It blends well with other woody oils such as frankincense, sandalwood, and cedarwood, as well as with citrus oils including orange and bergamot. It is also used in natural perfumery as a base or middle note.
This 10ml bottle of palo santo essential oil is suitable for use in oil burners, reed diffusers, and aromatherapy blends. As with all essential oils, dilute in a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin. Not for internal use.
