Sunstone Sphere 6cm

Description

A sunstone sphere, 6cm across and 322g, polished to a soft glassy shine and sent on our standard wooden sphere stand. Peach and salmon sunstone sits in patches through creamy white feldspar, threaded with fine golden lines, so every turn of the sphere shows a different face.

All five photos show this same sphere from different sides, under ordinary light and without lifting the colour.

Why it is called sunstone

Hold a sunstone sphere under a lamp and the peach areas throw a coppery glitter. It comes from tiny platelets of hematite caught inside the feldspar, catching light from within rather than off the polish. It shows and hides as the sphere turns, and in flat light it can disappear altogether, so it is worth rolling the sphere slowly by a window or a lamp.

The creamy areas are feldspar too, and you may notice a soft sheen in them as the light moves across. Fine internal lines are part of the stone.

Traditional correspondences

Sunstone is kept in older practice as a stone of warmth, joy and the returning light. It is traditionally linked with the sacral and solar plexus chakras, with confidence and saying yes to things. In sphere form the energy is said to spread gently and evenly around a room, and through the darker months a sunstone sphere is a lovely way to keep a little of the sun on the altar or the windowsill.

Correspondences are traditional and are offered as part of a practice, not as a substitute for medical or professional advice.

Caring for sunstone

Feldspar sits around 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, a little softer than quartz, so keep your sunstone sphere away from quartz points and tumblestones that could scratch it. A dry soft cloth is all it needs. To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight.
