Full Flower Moon 2026: Scorpio’s Shadow Meets the Beltane Fires

A Rare Lunar Alignment on the Wheel of the Year

Welcome to Your Sacred Space

Welcome back to the Grove. This May, the Wheel of the Year offers something unusual. On Friday 1 May 2026, at 6.23pm BST, the Full Flower Moon reaches her peak in Scorpio on the very same day that Beltane lights her fires across the land.

It is not an ordinary Full Moon. It is a doorway that opens once and closes quickly. A rare alignment where the brightest festival of fertility on the Wheel of the Year meets the deepest, most transformative Moon in the zodiac. The bloom of Beltane and the shadow of Scorpio, woven together in a single luminous night.

If something has been stirring beneath the surface lately, something tender, honest, and ready to be named, the Flower Moon is the reason. She is already making herself known.

The Rare Alignment of Beltane and the Full Flower Moon

The Flower Moon takes her name from the bloom of May, the moment when the hedgerows spill into white and pink and the earth shows her fullest abundance. In traditional Wheel of the Year practice, this Full Moon often passes gently, rising a few days before or after Beltane. In 2026, the alignment is exact.

Beltane is celebrated on 1 May, the midpoint between the spring equinox and summer solstice. On that very same day, the Flower Moon reaches fullness at 6.23pm BST, sitting at eleven degrees of Scorpio. The Taurus Sun, which governs Beltane’s embodied pleasure and sensual devotion, stands opposite the Scorpio Moon, which governs buried truth, emotional depth, and alchemical rebirth.

Fire and water. Bloom and shadow. Joy and revelation. Both are asked to rise at once. This alignment will not repeat with the same clarity for many years, which makes the work you do on the night of 1 May uniquely potent.

Scorpio Moon Energy: The Shadow Beneath the Bloom

A Full Moon in Scorpio is unlike any other. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, and governs all that lies beneath the surface. Hidden emotions. Inherited patterns. Sacred intimacy. The parts of ourselves we protect, guard, or quietly grieve.

When the Moon sits in Scorpio at her fullest, she illuminates what has been buried. She does not accuse. She does not expose. She simply shines her clear silver light into the rooms we forgot we had locked.

The themes of a Scorpio Full Moon are emotional truth, the naming of what you have been afraid to speak. Shadow integration, the parts of yourself you have rejected returning to be known and welcomed home. Sacred intimacy, the quality of your closest bonds and the boundaries that protect them. Release and rebirth, what must be composted so the new can rise. And personal power, the reclamation of energy you have given away.

On an ordinary year, this inward focus can feel intense beside the outward celebration of Beltane. In 2026, the two energies weave directly into each other. The Flower Moon asks you to bring your shadow into the Beltane fire, not to burn it away in shame, but to let it be warmed, witnessed, and transformed.

Why This Full Moon Feels Softer Than Most

The 2026 Full Flower Moon is a Micromoon. She reaches fullness near apogee, the point in her orbit furthest from Earth. She appears around five percent smaller and ten percent dimmer than an average Full Moon.

For those who work with lunar energy, a Micromoon is a gift. Her light is gentler. Her pull is softer. The emotional tides she stirs are present but contained, which makes her especially suited to deep inner work. Where a Supermoon can feel like a flood, a Micromoon feels like a still pool you can lean over and see yourself in clearly.

The Flower Moon of 2026 is not asking you to act urgently. She is asking you to sit with what she reveals and let it inform the season to come.

Crystals for the Full Flower Moon in Scorpio

Your crystal circle for this Full Moon should honour both the illumination above and the depth below. These are the six stones to work with on the night of 1 May.

Moonstone

Moonstone is the essential Full Moon companion. She carries the energy of the Divine Feminine and heightens intuitive knowing. On a Scorpio Full Moon, she softens the intensity and allows emotional truth to surface gently rather than crashing to the surface all at once. Place a piece on your altar, or hold one during meditation. If you are new to lunar work and only choose one stone for this Full Moon, let it be Moonstone.

Labradorite

Labradorite is the stone of magic, transformation, and psychic protection. She is one of the most aligned crystals for a Scorpio Full Moon because she shields you from energetic spillover while you do deep inner work. Her flash awakens latent intuitive gifts and she serves as the guardian at the threshold of the shadow realm. If you are planning to journey deep this Full Moon, keep a piece of Labradorite within reach.

Smoky Quartz

When the Scorpio Moon pulls up old grief, anger, or buried wounds, Smoky Quartz grounds you. She anchors the emotional body to the earth, allowing heavy energy to be transmuted rather than held. Smoky Quartz is essential for anyone new to shadow work because she ensures that whatever rises has somewhere safe to land.

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz holds the frequency of unconditional love. Shadow work without self compassion is simply self punishment, and Rose Quartz ensures that whatever you unearth tonight is met with tenderness. She is the soft hand beneath the sharp truth. Pair her with Smoky Quartz for emotional release that stays kind, or place her directly over your heart during meditation.

Obsidian

For those ready to go deeper, Black Obsidian is a mirror stone. She reveals truths we may have avoided seeing, and her presence on a Scorpio Full Moon altar is unapologetic. If you choose to work with her, pair her always with Rose Quartz and Smoky Quartz to soften the revelations and keep you grounded. Obsidian is not for everyone and not for every Full Moon, but for this particular Moon she is a powerful ally.

Clear Quartz

Clear Quartz is the master amplifier. A single Clear Quartz point in the centre of your Full Moon altar will magnify the energies of every other stone present and clarify your intention. She is also the stone that holds memory, so whatever you charge her with on 1 May, she will carry forward into the lunar month ahead.

A Full Flower Moon Ritual for 1 May 2026

This ritual takes around thirty minutes and is designed to honour both the Beltane fire and the Scorpio depth. Perform it at moonrise, or any time after 6.23pm BST on 1 May.

You will need a red or pink spell candle, a bowl of spring water or Fountain of Youth ritual water, your chosen crystals (Moonstone, Labradorite, Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz), a journal and pen, and a sprig of hawthorn or any May flower if available. If you are building a complete altar for Beltane, our guide on how to build a Beltane altar walks you through every element.

Step One: Cleanse Your Space

Light incense, ring a singing bowl, or simply open a window and invite the May air inside. Set your crystals on your altar in a gentle circle around the bowl of water. You are creating a container for the work to come.

Step Two: Light Your Candle

Light your spell candle. Speak aloud or inwardly, “I honour the fire of Beltane and the depth of the Scorpio Moon. I am ready to see what is ready to be seen.” This opens the ritual and signals to the Moon that you are ready to receive her.

Step Three: Sit in Stillness

Hold your Labradorite in your hands and sit in stillness for two full minutes. Allow whatever arises to arise. You are not seeking anything. You are simply making room. The Scorpio Moon does her best work when she is not chased.

Step Four: Journal

Open your journal and respond to the prompts below without editing. Do not cross out. Do not soften. Let the Moon write through you. She will not be gentle, but she will be honest, and honesty is the only medicine she carries.

Step Five: Offer Compassion

When you have finished writing, hold your Rose Quartz to your heart. Offer a word of kindness to whatever the pen revealed. Place the crystals around your bowl of water to charge overnight in the Moonlight. A spray of Lady of the Lake ritual water at this point deepens the blessing.

Step Six: Close

Close the ritual by extinguishing the candle with thanks. The spell candle may be relit on the following three nights to continue the work. Your crystals will be fully charged by sunrise on 2 May, ready to carry the Moon’s energy with you through the weeks ahead.

Journal Prompts for the Scorpio Full Moon

Choose one or work through all six. The answers that come most quickly are usually the most honest.

What truth have I been avoiding, and what would change if I finally spoke it? Where in my life am I holding onto something that no longer serves my growth? Who or what has been drawing my energy without my consent, and am I ready to call it back? If I allowed myself to be fully seen tonight, what would I want the people I love to know? What buried desire is asking to be honoured at Beltane this year? And finally, what am I ready to transform, rather than fix?

Write long. Write short. Write only one sentence if that is all that comes. The Moon does not measure you by your output. She measures you by your willingness.

What Comes Next: The Sagittarius Blue Moon on 31 May
