Description
Pink amethyst butterfly wings, carved and polished, set on a slim metal stand worked into a butterfly body with fine curled antennae. The wingspan measures 12cm across the pair.
Most pink amethyst butterfly wings sold online are geode halves. A geode is cut down the middle and the two faces are hung side by side, which gives a hollow shell with a sparkling druzy centre. This pair is not that.
These are solid carved wings, worked from a slab rather than a cavity, with the wing veins cut into the surface and the whole face polished flat. The edges are scalloped rather than smooth, following the shape of a real wing down through the lower lobes.
What you can see in the pink amethyst butterfly wings
The colour is soft rather than saturated. Pale blush and cream run through the body of the stone with cloudy patches breaking up the surface, and there are warmer tan and rust markings gathered toward the lower edge of each wing.
The two wings are a matched pair but not identical, which is normal for a carve taken from natural stone. Look at the images rather than the description for the pattern, because that is the part no wording gets right.

Caring for pink amethyst
Pink amethyst sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for everyday handling but soft enough to scratch against harder stones. Keep it away from quartz points and away from anything gritty.
The colour will fade in direct sunlight. This is the one thing worth knowing. Amethyst takes its colour from irradiated iron held in the lattice, and prolonged sun exposure destroys those colour centres permanently. Heat does the same. A bright room is fine. A south facing windowsill in summer is not.
The carved wings are thin at the outer edges. Lift the piece by the stand rather than by a wing tip, and take the wings out of the clips before moving the stand itself.
To cleanse, use sound, breath or moonlight. Water is not needed here and will do nothing that a moment of attention will not.
