Description
This selenite ritual knife is a simple, classic blade shape, about 20cm long and 4cm wide, weighing around 198g. It is carved and polished from natural selenite from Morocco.
A selenite knife is a ritual tool rather than a cutting tool. In crystal practice it is used to cut away what no longer serves you, symbolically rather than physically. It works as a gentle alternative to a metal athame for directing energy, casting a circle or marking out sacred space.
What is a selenite knife used for?
- Cord cutting: hold the knife and draw it through the air between you and what you are releasing, saying aloud what you are letting go of.
- Circle casting: point the blade outwards and turn slowly to mark your sacred space.
- Clearing: sweep it slowly around your body or over your altar as a gentle cleanse.
- Waning moon work: the waning moon is the traditional time for release rituals.
Caring for selenite
Selenite is soft and dissolves in water, so keep it dry, wipe it with a soft dry cloth and store it where it will not be knocked. Our guide on what it means when a crystal breaks explains what to do if a selenite piece ever breaks.
