Wrapping a Witchy Gift

A few small touches make a crystal or candle feel like it was meant for them.

  • Wrap in brown paper and tie with natural twine, then tuck in a sprig of rosemary, bay or pine.
  • Add a handwritten card with the meaning of the stone or the goddess, so they know why you chose it.
  • For a crystal, a small cloth pouch keeps it safe and doubles as a place to store it afterwards.
  • If they keep Yule, give the gift on the solstice night and light a candle together for the returning sun.

When to Order

  • The advent calendar: order in November so it arrives before 1 December.
  • Yule gifts: Yule, the winter solstice, falls on Monday 21 December 2026, a few days before Christmas.
  • Everything else: orders go out within two working days, so ordering early in December keeps the post office queues out of your festive season.

Yule and Christmas: an Honest History

Many witches and pagans keep Yule, the winter solstice, as well as or instead of Christmas. It helps to know a little of where the name comes from, especially if you are writing a card.

Yule comes from Old English geol and Old Norse jól, the name of a midwinter feast long before Christianity reached northern Europe. The monk Bede, writing in the early 700s, recorded that the English called the months around midwinter Giuli, and that the year began on a night he called Modranicht, the night of the mothers.

Much of what is described as ancient Yule today is a modern revival, shaped in the twentieth century. That does not make it less meaningful. Older still is the solstice itself, and at Stonehenge the stones line up with the midwinter sunset. English Heritage’s solstice page explains the alignment and the open access mornings.

In 2026 Yule falls on Monday 21 December, so a gift given on the solstice night arrives a few days before Christmas.

Is It Bad Luck to Buy Your Own Tarot Cards?

You will often hear that your first tarot deck should be given to you rather than bought. It is a lovely custom, but it is folklore rather than a rule, and plenty of readers buy their own.

It does make a tarot deck one of the most thoughtful Christmas gifts for a witch who is just starting out. Our gold foil tarot gift set comes with a guidebook, so a beginner has everything they need on Christmas morning.

For the Witch Who Has Everything

A long standing practitioner usually has the basics. The trick is something either rare, personal or consumable.

  • Rare: raw moldavite or Libyan desert glass, both formed by ancient impacts, and pieces most collections are missing.
  • Personal: birthstone tumblestones for their birth month, or the goddess mug of the goddess they love most.
  • Consumable: a year’s supply of chime candles in their favourite colours. Candles always get used.
  • An experience: a card promising a night out together under the solstice sky, with a flask of something warm.

The Crystal Advent Calendar, Explained

The crystal advent calendar is our most asked about Christmas gift, and the one with a deadline. Each door holds a crystal, so by Christmas Eve they have a small collection of twenty four stones.

It suits a beginner who wants to start a collection, a child who loves stones and a seasoned witch who enjoys a daily ritual through December. Order it in November so it arrives before 1 December, ready for the first door.
